The Coral Gables Art Cinema presents the exclusive South Florida premiere of the risqué Norwegian comedy Turn Me On, Dammit! (Få meg på, for faen) in 2K Digital Cinema Projection.
A whimsical and groundbreakingly honest coming of age story about a teenage girl’s blossoming sexuality, the critically-acclaimed feature was awarded “Best Screenplay” at the Tribeca Film Festival, and has been drawing big crowds for its current New York premiere run. Turn Me On, Dammit! opens on Friday, May 25 and will play seven days a week. It is unrated but no one under 17 will be admitted without an adult due to mature content, and the film is in Norwegian with English subtitles.
Set in the small-town, mountainous hinterlands of Norway, Turn Me On, Dammit! is the story of 15-year-old Alma. The film is unusually frank and realistic, and often hysterically funny, in its portrayal of a young girl’s sexuality. Alma is, to put it bluntly, burning up with desire for her neighbor Artur, and consumed by lustful fantasies for about practically everybody else she lays her eyes on. On her journey to finding herself, she must deal with a mother who does not understand her and thinks her own daughter is oversexed; friends at school who alternately befriend and shun her in the midst of their own teenage angst; and mounting bills from a phone sex line.
Adapted from a popular Norwegian novel by Olaug Nilssen, director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen’s clever and compassionate dark comedy puts a female perspective front and center, while never stinting on the laughs. The Philadelphia Inquirer says, “Enormously entertaining. Both sexy and wholesome… that rare thing, a movie that says shame on sexual shame and double shame on the double standard,” and The Boston Globe notes, “I can’t think of another movie whose finale uses a reference to genitalia to warm your heart.”
