CGAC pays tribute to exploitation auteur Doris Wishman with a screening of a new digital preservation of her sci-fi classic, Nude on the Moon, a 1961 romp about a tropical society of topless aliens on the moon, filmed in Homestead’s Coral Castle.
Ms. Wishman moved to Coral Gables in the mid 1980’s, worked at The Pink Pussycat Boutique on Main Highway in Coconut Grove and on a couple of film projects until her death at age 90 in 2002. Late in life, she became a cult figure and appeared twice on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, where she was interviewed by Roger Ebert.
Her last film, Each Time I Kill, was released posthumously in 2007 and features cameos by John Waters, Linnea Quigley and Fred Schneider of the B52’s. Hailed by fellow schlock-maker Frank Henenlotter as “stupid to the point of breathtaking,” has recently screened at the UCLA Film and Television Archive and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Archivist and media artist Barron Sherer will introduce the movie, reminisce about working with Ms. Wishman in South Florida, and take questions from the audience after the show.
