Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida Presents ‘Dances Of Love’ at The Willow Theatre

February 17, 2013, 2:00 p.m.

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, directed by Vladimir Issaev, presents an afternoon of delightful dance and romance, for post-Valentine’s ballet ‘lovers’.  On Sunday, February 17th at 2:00 pm, for one day only, this vibrant professional company will transport their amorous performance to the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton, presenting a mixed repertoire of contemporary and classical ballet.  The diverse program is sure to have something for every beating heart, with a broad range of ensemble pieces, as well as several pas de deuxs.

First on the program are the classic tragic lovers, Romeo and Juliet, in a steamy pas de deux on the infamous balcony set to the music of Prokofiev, choreographed by Lavrovsky and Arts Ballet’s maestro Vladimir Issaev.

Next ‘up’, after a light ‘snooze’, Sleeping Beauty awakens for a pas de deux with her amorous and admiring Prince, to the music of Tchaikovsky, and the choreography of Petipa.

Following the awakening, what season of love would be complete without a lover’s triangle? A little joyful Pas de Trois from Fairy Doll tells the story of two Pierrots who fall in love with a beautiful Doll.

Then comes a little ‘new love’ as two strangers meet in the award-winning El Encuentro with music of Albinoni (Adagio) and the sultry choreography of Vladimir Issaev. This piece awarded Issaev ‘Best New Choreographer’ at the Palm Springs Choreographers Festival, California.

And finally (or finale) comes Danzon, a vibrant and exciting work by guest choreographer Yanis Pikieris, with music by Arturo Marquez, bringing the entire company together for a celebration of fiery passion. Similar to other dances in the Caribbean and Latin America, the danzón was initially regarded as scandalous (especially when it began to be danced by all classes of the society.) The slower rhythm of the danzón led to couples dancing closer together, with sinuous movements of the hips and a lower centre of gravity. What better way to end a program of love?

Seating is limited.  Tickets are $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for children 12 and under and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 561.347.3948 or by visiting www.willowtheatre.org
