The Museum of Contemporary Art hosts The Cleveland Orchestra Chamber Players for a performance on January 29th, at 7:30 pm. Co-presented with The Cleveland Orchestra, this program is part of "Music at MOCA", the museum’s on-going series of performances produced in collaboration with other cultural organizations in Miami.
The program of contemporary music performed by different ensembles from The Cleveland Orchestra includes two works inspired by rock and roll. Thomas Adès’ Cardiac Arrest is an arrangement of the song by the British rock group Madness, scored for viola, cello, bass, clarinet, bass clarinet, and piano four-hands. Michael Daugherty’s Dead Elvis, for solo bassoon, violin, bass, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and percussion, is the composer’s impression of the life and death of Elvis Presley.
Also on the program is Joan Tower’s Petroushskates, for violin, cello, flute, clarinet and piano, inspired by the composers love for the music of Igor Stravinsky and figure skating. Lee Hyla’s Ciao, Manhattan, is the composer’s salute to New York. During the performance, Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Conductor Jayce Ogren and MOCA Executive Director Bonnie Clearwater will discuss each piece and its relationship to contemporary art.
