College Spring Dance Concert by New World School Of The Arts dancers presents thought-provoking choreography

April 23 - 26, 2015

This year’s New World School of the Arts’ College Spring Dance Concert will be an exciting and varied program, featuring the work of respected faculty choreographers as well as other world renowned choreographers including Eduardo Vilaro (Artistic Director of the New York City-based company, Ballet Hispanico) and Bill T. Jones among others.

The program showcases Asuka, Vilaro’s moving work set to the music of the iconic Cuban singer Celia Cruz, and serving as his tribute and celebration of her life and career; Bill T. Jones’ powerfully lyrical work, D-Man in the Waters, which is set to the soaring ‘Mendelssohn Octet for Strings’, played live by NWSA musicians; and Darshan Singh Bhuller’s witty and engaging new work, Follies.

NWSA Ballet faculty member Gerard Ebitz will present a contemporary ballet work entitled Frost, set to the renowned poem by Robert Frost, ‘Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening’. Modern faculty members Dale Andree and Peter London (Artistic Director of the Miami-based dance company Peter London Global Dance Theater) will present engaging and powerful new works as well.

At New World School of the Arts dance students receive instruction from accomplished dancers and choreographers and grow through disciplined guidance and training as they develop their personal style and repertoire. Through its educational partnerships, NWSA’s audition-based programs, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance, Music, Theater and Art and Design, offer the high school diploma as well as the BFA and BM college degrees. Areas of concentration in dance include Ballet, Choreography, Modern Dance and World Dance.

New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
