Fifth Annual Overtown Holiday Spectacular Concert

St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church. Dec 19, 2010. 4:00 p.m.

altSunday, December 19th within Overtown’s Historic St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church, the holiday season will be ushered in with what has become an annual and spirit-filled holiday concert spectacular.  Amidst a mix of Neo-Classical – and Mission – style elements, the home of one of Miami’s oldest African-American congregations is location to an event that draws upwards of 2,000.

This annual free concert is presented by the award-winning Coral Gables Congregational Church (CGCC) Community Arts Program (CAP) Conservatory for the Arts’ and its Young Musicians’ Junior Orchestra led by April Liberty, Advanced Orchestra conducted by Ashley Liberty and the ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble conducted by Daniel Strange. Other members of the Community Arts Program teaching and coaching faculty join, with organist Dr. Ronald Morgan, to round out a spirited holiday concert of classical and jazz music that will have toes tapping, spirits soaring, and St. Agnes’ pipe organ (and everyone) singing!

Concertgoers will hear music of Mozart, Gigout, Louis-Claude Daquin, Tchaikovsky and more with strings and St. Agnes’ grand pipe organ! PLUS, there will be stellar arrangements of such jazz classics as Sing, Sing, Sing; I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Count Basie’s Jingle Bells and other classic tunes for jazz ensemble. Also, the program will bring new arrangements for jazz ensemble and string orchestra of such carols as Angels We Have Heard on High, Three Ships and a grand sing-along to usher in the most spectacular time of the year. There will be musical surprises to, again, knock your stockings off in a perfect family event. A catered reception of holiday foods follows the concert.

The mission of the Coral Gables Congregational Church Community Arts Program is to serve a diverse community with the transforming power of the arts through educational and culturally enriching experiences.
