Frost School of Music presents Birdhouse: Charlie Parker Bebop at Its Best

Deauville Jazz Club at the Deauville Beach Resort. March 30, 2013, 6:30 p.m.

Reserve your seating today for an exclusive event reminiscent of the 1940s when New York City’s 52nd Street was buzzing with high-energy jazz on every corner at such clubs as Minton’s, 3 Deuces, Club Carousel, The Famous Door and more. Enjoy a private reception with old-school cocktails, a jazz photography exhibit by Daniel Azoulay, and comfortable night club seating while today’s hottest jazz artists romp through their favorite bebop anthems such as “Confirmation,” “Orthinology,” “Anthropology” and “Donna Lee.” Enjoy the spirited camaraderie and in-the-moment exuberance of bebop at its best, and get your photograph taken with the artists by famed jazz photographer Daniel Azoulay!

Daniel Azoulay will have a gallery on display with jazz photographic prints available for purchase during the cocktail hour with 100% proceeds donated to the William F. Lee III Music Scholarship Fund.

Grammy nominated Dean Shelly Berg and Frost School alumnus Will Lee (longstanding house bassist for CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman) are hosting a high energy benefit with legendary drummer Steve Gadd, Grammy winning trumpeter Brian Lynch and New York vibe player Joe Locke that they’ve dubbed “Birdhouse” in honor the legendary bebop saxophonist Charlie Parker (“Bird”) and Will Lee’s father, the late Dr. “Bill” Lee, a pianist and former dean of music at UM from 1964-1982 who played in his youth with Charlie Parker.

In addition to an impactful tenure at UM, Dean Bill Lee was a renowned jazz educator who co-founded the International Association for Jazz Education and, like Dean Shelly Berg, served as one of its past presidents. Catch the excitement – join us for Birdhouse!

Event seating is limited and begins at $350 per person. Includes cocktails, buffet dinner and validated parking. Please call 305.284.3941 for more information or click HERE to reserve your seats today.
