International Hispanic Theatre Festival

From July 11 through 28, 2013.

The International Hispanic Theatre Festival (IHTF) of Miami, presented by Teatro Avante, American Airlines, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and Teatro Prometeo of Miami Dade College, celebrates its twenty-eighth season in the company of distinguished theatre groups from Latin America and Spain, as well as the United States, at various venues in Miami-Dade County.

This year, for the first time in its history, the IHTF dedicates a season to PERU, in recognition and celebration of that country’s contribution to Hispanic culture. In addition, thanks to a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge, the IHTF’s Educational Component will hold a two-day conference and launch a book commemorating the Festival’s 25th anniversary.

The Festival spans three weeks, with performances Thursdays through Sundays, and it includes 15 productions from nine countries: Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, the United States and Uruguay. Most of the plays are in Spanish (some have English supertitles) and children’s theatre and musical programs also figure in the program. Festival venues include the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Teatro Prometeo and Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center, Miami-Dade County Auditorium and the Key Biscayne Community Center.
