Karen Peterson and Dancers Spring Concerts

May 1st through 3rd, 2009.  Karen Peterson and Dancers. Miami ArtsSouth Florida’s own groundbreaking mixed-ability company, Karen Peterson and Dancers, present the world premiere of their new video dance fusion work, Mano a Mano, along with the popular piece Future Memories, at their Friday through Sunday, May 1st through 3rd, 2009 spring concerts. The concerts take place at the company’s South Dade Excello Dance Space, with Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 4:00 pm.

Mano a Mano features the four dancers, both with and without disabilities, as they interact with and respond to live video projections directed by video artist Maria Lino, a two time Cintas Fellow and 2007 Women Visual Scholarship winner. The collaboration between Lino and choreographer Karen Peterson takes an honest look at the physicality of disability, showcasing the beauty of this mixed group of artists brought together through movement. The cutting-edge fusion of live video and dance is a first for the company. Future Memories is an intimate multi-media work which creatively mixes dance, home video, childhood songs, finger painting (with real paint) and family arguments, to cleverly parallel the struggles, passion and support of choreographer Peterson’s own family with that of the dancers in the company.
