Taking place in Miami, Florida, a true crossroads of the Americas, “Forward Motion” will be one of the first festivals and conferences anywhere in the world showcasing groundbreaking physically integrated dance companies and choreography. Karen Peterson and Dancers (KPD), who for 25 years has been South Florida’s only physically integrated company, will produce “Forward Motion.”
Activities for “Forward Motion” 2018 include: Public performances by international physically integrated dance companies of excellence, as well as KPD and other South Florida-based dancers, who will also be part of all festival and conference activities as participants and teachers. Committed invited companies are The London based Candoco, one of the world’s top physically integrated contemporary companies. San Francisco’s AXIS, the leading U.S. based physically integrated group, who tours extensively and collaborates with some of the best choreographers working today.
Their inclusive movement vocabulary has moved audiences for almost three decades. REVolutions Dance, founded by Dwayne Scheunemann and Arnie West in 2005 from Tampa, Florida, will also be on the bill. Dwayne, an accomplished wheelchair dancer, is the Executive Director. Merry Lynn Morris, MFA, Ph.D. is the Education Director for the program and frequently choreographs work for the students and the company. REVolutions has performed work and conducted workshops nationally and internationally including countries such as Russia, China, and Palestine as well as with KPD in Miami.
