Le Petit Papillon Montessori School hosts "Street Funk Art"

December 7, 2012, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Le Petit Papillon Montessori School, Miami Beach’s renowned Montessori School is hosting their second annual family-friendly event, “Street Funk,” as a complement to Art Basel Miami Beach.

Following the tremendous success of last year’s “Dark Side of the Rainbow” showcase, Le Petit Papillon is once again providing an engaging artistic venue for families with children of all ages during Art Basel. The school’s mission is to create an unforgettable evening guaranteed to stimulate children’s senses and expose art appreciation through art and musical expression. Parents and children are invited to walk the enchanting grounds of the campus and observe photography installations, a cinematic documentary on oversize inflatable screens, and literary works by Le Petit Papillon’s savvy toddler, Pre-K and elementary students.

Preview exhibits including “Did You See That Funk” and “Baby Funk,” black and white photography installations; a poetry installation titled “Funk and It’s Junk;” and “Street Funk,” a film capturing student interpretations of funky breaking dancing moves. Students will also take center stage alongside locally renowned Miami street artist Daniel Fila of Krave Art (www.kraveart.com), as part of a live art mural presentation. Plus, enjoy a captivating dance off by Expression of Talent’s Break Dancers, a professional team of entertainers guaranteed to get your feet moving while they dance to the beats of DJ John Bordonaro.

The event is free and open to the public. Gourmet tastings will be served by The Village Stand (www.thevillagestand.com) and SYLTBAR (www.syltbar.com). Families are encouraged to wear funky streetwear attire.
