Lecture with Cuauhtemoc Medina

MAC@MAM’s current presentation of Melanie Smith and Rafael Ortega: The Parres Trilogy at Miami Art Museum provides the starting point for Cuauhtemoc Medina’s lecture Pre-industrial-post: Melanie Smith and the looks of Modernization, on April 13th, 2008 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at MAM.

Medina, Associate Curator of Latin American Art of the Tate Modern, will address the context of Smith’s work and assess her contribution to the contemporary visual production of Mexico City. In addition to his position at the Tate, Medina is a Researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas (Institute of Aesthetic Research) at the National University of Mexico. Among his recent publications are Melanie Smith: Ciudad espiral y otros placeres artificiales (Melanie Smith: Spiral City and Other Artificial Pleasures) (México, A&R, 2006) and Francis Alÿs (Phaidon, 2007).
