Locust Projects 15 Year Anniversary Block Party

March 1st, 2013. 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Locust Projects celebrates its 15th anniversary as a pioneer of the Miami art scene with a block party at its new 5,000 square foot exhibition space in the Design District. Guests are invited to sip cocktails, dance and enjoy food by Gastropod, the original gourmet.

The 15 Year Anniversary Block Party is a featured event in Locust Projects’ pop-up series, One Night Stands (ONS) – social events presenting collaborations with creative producers at interesting and unlikely venues across the city. Following past events with partner venues including Bardot, South Street and Ricochet, this ONS brings it back to the experimental exhibitions at the Locust Projects’ gallery. The 15 Anniversary Block Party will feature a site-specific installation by Los Angeles-based Karl Haendel of over a dozen 35 mm slide projections, and a video sculpture by New York-based, Miami native Carlos Rigau.

Locust Projects is a not-for-profit exhibition space celebrating 15 years founded by three Miami artists in 1998 in order to provide contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas and methods without the limitations of conventional exhibition spaces. Artists are encouraged to create site-specific installations as an extension of their representative work, and Locust Projects offers them a vibrant Miami experience to develop their ideas. Locust Projects is committed to offering an approachable and inviting venue for the Miami and international art community to experience the work and meet the artists.
