Miami Bach Society presents Tropical Baroque Music Festival XIV

From March 1 through 9, 2013.

altIn celebration of the “Year of Italian Culture in the United States”, the Miami Bach Society’s renowned annual Early Music celebration will feature Italian artists, Italian music and Italian programming. The festival will take place in venues in Coral Gables, March 1 through 9, 2013.

Concert Lineup:

Friday, March 1st, 8:00 p.m. Shelly Berg, South Florida’s renowned jazz pianist (and Dean of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music) performs a program of Jazz/Bach and Scarlatti, Riviera Presbyterian Church, 5275 Sunset Drive, Coral Gables.

Saturday, March 2nd, 8:00 p.m. Fuoco e Cenere, from France, with exciting young Israeli soprano, Claire Meghnagi, performing Judith and Esther, a program of French Baroque cantatas about Old Testament heroines, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 1142 Andalusia Avenue, Coral Gables.

Sunday, March 3rd, 7:00 p.m., Brass Miami, Annual Fireworks Concert, led by Brian Neal, the celebrated local ensemble performs Handel’s Royal Fireworks Music and Italian Baroque favorites closing with a real fireworks display at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables

Monday, March 4th, 8:00 p.m. Mala Punica, directed by Pedro Memelsdorff give a concert of Italian Mediaeval Music, Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 DeSoto Boulevard, Coral Gables.   

Tuesday, March 5th, 8:00 p.m., I Virtuosi delle Muse, perform Italian Baroque masterpieces, including works by Vivaldi, Porpora and Broschi, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5690 North Kendall Drive, Coral Gables.

Wednesday, March 6th, 8:00 p.m., Luca Guglielmi, from Turin, plays a harpsichord recital entitled, Bach, Italy and the Italian Connection, at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables.

Thursday, March 7th, 8:00 p.m., Le Poème Harmonique, from Paris, directed by Vincent DuMestre, returns to perform Venezia, From the Streets to the Palaces, by candlelight, at Comber Hall, Church of the Little Flower, 2711 Indian Mound Drive, Coral Gables.

Friday, March 8th, 8:00 p.m., Jay Bernfeld’s Fuoco e Cenere from France perform Music for a Cardinal, works of Vivaldi, Locatelli, Corelli and Handel, repertory of the Italian Baroque, at the Danielson Gallery, Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables.

Saturday, March 9th, 8:00 p.m., Donald Oglesby conducting the Bach Society Chamber Orchestra, the U. of M. Collegium Musicum with tenor Tony Boutté, soprano, Karen Neal, Mezzo-soprano, Katherine Wiggins and baritone, Carl Du Pont performing a program of Italian Baroque Arias at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables.

Tickets for general admission are $35, for preferred seating, $45, except for the Brass Miami fireworks performance, which are $50 and $75. Students 18 and under are admitted for free.
