Miami-Dade County Auditorium presents MDCA IRL: Summer, a new theater series

This indoor series includes the return of the 35th International Hispanic Theatre Festival, the free International Children’s Day, a jazz concert starring Negroni’s Trio & Edgar Omar, performances featuring Conecta: Miami Arts, ARCA Images, FUNDarte’s Climakaze Miami 2021 and more.

MDCA and Teatro Avante present the 35th International Hispanic Theatre Festival, featuring theatrical performances by companies from Uruguay, Ecuador and Mexico. These performances are presented in Spanish.

Murga Madre
Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10, at 8:30 pm, and Sunday, July 11 at 5pm

Murga Madre is a musical about the largest popular festival in Uruguay: Carnival. Since its premiere in 2002, Murga Madre won the Florencia Sánchez prize for best musical and has toured around the world. Written by Pablo Routin & directed by Fernando Toja.

Barrio Caleidoscopio
Thursday, July 15, Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17 at 8:30 pm

Alfonsito wakes up with a desire to go to the store and buy a loaf of bread or two. To do so, he must face his multiple eccentric fears, pretend to act like the “normal” people, and leave his meticulously organized, dusty home. Written and directed by Carlos Gallegos.

Papá está en la Atlántida
Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 at 8:30 pm, Sunday, July 25 at 5pm

Papá está en la Atlántida is the story of orphanhood and the mutual loyalty of two brothers who set out on a journey to find their father in the United States. Written by Javier Malpica & directed by Esteban Castellanos.

MDCA and Teatro Avante present International Children’s Day
Sunday, July 18, 2pm

A free day-long event with arts & crafts, food, activities and workshops for children and families. The day culminates with the performance of Un bosque encantado (An Enchanted Forest), a musical adventure through nature that pays homage to Latin American rhythms. Written and directed by Camila Rivera, Tatiana Samper and Daniel Roa, with musical direction by Daniel Roa.

Vuelve a Contarmelo Todo
Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7 at 8:30 pm, Sunday, August 8 at 5pm

A supporting actor, tired of the routine. A young actress, full of illusions. Nothing will stop them in their unstoppable race towards the abyss of success. A sentimental thriller with hints of dark comedy. Written and directed by Abel González Melo, starring Adrián Mas and Laura Alemán. Presented by MDCA & ARCA Images.

Ellas, las de Gabo
Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14 at 8pm

In this dreamy, psychological journey, 10 young actresses permeate the space with the energy and emotionality necessary to enter a world where time, love and loneliness sustain the weight of their characters. Dramaturgy and direction by Neher Jacqueline Briceño, inspired by the stories of Gabriel García Márquez. Presented by MDCA & Conecta: Miami Arts.

“Truth or Consequences” by Elizabeth Doud

A new performance that explores the detrimental effects of climate change. Presented as part of Climakaze Miami 2021 by MDCA & FUNDarte.

MDCA & Jose Negroni presents “Session” featuring Negroni’s Trio & Edgar Omar
Saturday, August 28 at 8pm

Latin Grammy nominee Jose Negroni and his trio are joined by vocalist Edgar Omar for an unforgettable night of jazz.
