The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, together with Riviera South Beach hotel, Alan Lieberman and Nathan Lieberman, present the fifth annual Miami Made Festival, featuring for 2013 a weeklong showcase of new works-in-progress created and performed by a roster of Miami-based artists across multiple disciplines, all of whom have previously collaborated with the Arsht Center. Miami Made Festival 2013 includes staged play readings and a dance showcase on-site in the Carnival Studio Theater, as well as pop-up performances at the soon-to-be-opened hotel, Riviera South Beach. Admission to Miami Made Festival 2013 events is free.

“With Miami Made Festival 2013, the Arsht Center is building on its history of nourishing innovative new work with a deeper commitment than ever before to artists who have created work on the Arsht Center stages in the past,” said John Richard, president and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center. “In addition, the support of the Liebermans and Funding Arts Network this season allows us to continue expanding the boundaries of traditional theater. For the first time in our history, Miami Made brings a terrifically fun immersive theater piece to a premium new venue – Riviera South Beach hotel.”

Zoetic Stage co-founders and 2012 Carbonell nominees Christopher Demos-Brown and Stuart Meltzer team up with a cast of Miami’s best actors (including Todd Allen Durkin, Steve Anthony and Arielle Hoffman) to present a staged reading of this dramatic new work-in-progress. FEAR UP HARSH focuses on the process by which America’s highest award for valour (The Congressional Medal of Honor) is given and, more broadly, how the entire concept of “awards” and “commendations” tends to skew our understanding of reality. “Fear Up Harsh” is a term used by the military to designate certain types of “enhanced interrogation” techniques that were legally sanctioned in the “global war on terror” post-9/11.
