Opening New Windows: A Tribute to Angela Lansbury by Delray Beach Playhouse

Angela Lansbury has enjoyed an astonishing career as a performer succeeding  in every phase of show business. She earned her first Academy Award nomination at the age of 17 in Gaslight. Later she starred in the popular television series, Murder, She Wrote. In 1966, she conquered Broadway with her dazzling performance as Mame. Later, she created the iconic role of “Mrs. Lovett” in Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.

Other musicals include Jerry Herman’s Dear World and Sondheim’s Anyone Can Whistle, along with revivals of Gypsy and A Little Night Music, two generations of children know her best as “Mrs. Potts,” the grandmotherly teacup who sang the title song in Disney’s animated classic, Beauty And The Beast. In a stage career spanning five decades, Angela has introduced over a dozen Broadway standards, including “Bosom Buddies”, “If He Walked into My Life”, “We Need a Little Christmas” and “Not While I’m Around.”
