In the very heart of Coconut Grove, St Stephen’s Art and Craft show will be celebrating its 20th anniversary come February 2008 with a bigger show presenting more artists, arts, crafts and attractions. For those not familiar with the Art Show, it began humbly as a hot dog and onion ring stand during the Coconut Grove Arts Festival; now the show is considered one of the top 50 Art Shows nationwide according to Sunshine Artist magazine’s annual survey. Profits from the Art Show have allowed St Stephen’s to underwrite many outreach causes throughout South Florida. This year, in an effort to expand its charitable efforts, the church will donate a portion of the new admission charge to Lotus House.
A $1 admission fee is being charged to everyone over 12 years of age. The admission fee is being instituted to allow St. Stephen’s to increase its assistance to the underserved and homeless in Miami’s community; St. Stephen’s has embraced the vision of becoming “the Heart of the Grove” by offering a variety of cultural, spiritual, entertainment and public service programming to the community – the Art Show – St. Stephen’s longest standing cultural outreach event- it is a great example of the fulfillment of that vision. For those with art in the heart, attending St. Stephen’s Art and Craft Show is also a great way of giving back.
