SWAN Spoken Soul Showcase Vol. 9 SWAN Day Miami

Apr 2-6, 2016, 6-10 pm

The most eagerly anticipated women’s history month event in Florida, the SWAN Spoken Soul showcase, set to feature fifteen local women artists and their Art, Poetry, and Performances at Little Haiti Cultural Complex
The SWAN Spoken Soul Showcase is back—bigger and badder than ever. Featuring a line-up of both known and emerging talents, the SWAN Spoken Soul Showcase has been the principal event showcasing the work of women artists in South Florida for the past nine years.

The Showcase is the flagship event of the SWAN Spoken Soul Festival. Inspired by SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day, SSF Founder and Director Deborah Magdalena created the Festival to support and create exposure for women artists in Miami-Dade County. Since then, she has been collaborating with other female rabble-rousers to put together a unique sensory experience year after year.

“The Spoken Soul Festival brings art, poetry and music together in a seamlessly beautiful presentation,” says Little Haiti Cultural Complex Managing Director Sandy Dorsainvil. Anyone who has experienced the sick beats, incendiary artwork, provocative photography, and mic-dropping lyrical genius of the featured women artists in previous years can attest to the fact there is no event that can replicate the vibe and energy of the Spoken Soul Showcase. Imagine all that, plus free-flowing Santos Sangria products at the donation-only bars set up throughout the space.

SWAN Spoken Soul Showcase Vol. 9 will feature fifteen artists—designers, visual artists, and performance artists. The entire performing arts building of Little Haiti Cultural Complex will be transformed into a haven of—and for—South Florida’s rising women artists. Works will be exhibited throughout the 2-story building, including a performance screened at the Complex’s state-of-the-art theater. Take advantage of the free admission to experience the showcase and meet the women artists behind the work.

Aside from the only-one-of-its-kind Spoken Soul Showcase, the three-day festival also includes the SWAN Community Program, a community service project; and the Vanessa Baez Memorial Women’s Brunch, which celebrates everyday women with extraordinary courage.

SSF’s SWAN Day Miami was named by the WomenArts foundation as one of the “Top 5 SWAN Events in the World” and as the “Best Place To Meet Intelligent Women” in 2012 by the Miami New Times. For the past nine years, locals have come out en masse to attend the Showcase and support women artists at this one-of-a-kind event.

Co-founder of Santos Sangria, Henry Santos, is proud to support the event: "We have enjoyed supporting this festival for many years. We believe in supporting these talented women artists who positively influence our world community.”

“This started out as a way to support local women spoken word artists like myself, and it has grown every year, showcasing both visual and performance art women artists,” says Magdalena. “The Spoken Soul Showcase is the only event of its kind in South Florida.”
