The New Miami Beach Cinematheque and Museum

Opening November 2010.

altThe Miami Beach Cinematheque, a “cultural anchor” for the City of Miami Beach, is expanding to the next phase in its evolution with a move to Historic City Hall on Washington Avenue. Miami Beach Cinematheque and Museum will be the only South Beach cultural arts venue that is dedicated to film and photographic arts.
The opportunity to remain on South Beach allows the Cinematheque to retain and grow its supporters while it continues its cultural contribution to the arts in the area. The Historic City Hall is ideal for the movie theatre component of Miami Beach Cinematheque and Museum with parking and easy central access.

The new location on Washington Avenue between the Wolfsonian Museum-FIU and Lincoln Road is the perfect environment to host activities for equal use from residents and visitors. The MBC will preserve a city-owned historic landmark and create an accessible, educational, streetscape-friendly, and inclusive showcase in a space that deserves to be seen and utilized by Miami Beach residents and visitors.

The Miami Beach Cinematheque and Museum space will be a fine arts venue as well as a multi-purpose use space. It will have a museum/gallery displaying thousands of historic items on an ongoing basis from the Miami Beach Cinematheque Archive that includes one of the world’s largest collections of film programs and other rare vintage cinema memorabilia. It will also celebrate Miami’s vibrant history of local filmmaking, with its “Made-In-Miami-Movie Tour.” MBC will offer a wide degree of educational experiences, all devoted to promoting and creating film as an art-form. It will also offer opportunities to learn the craft of filmmaking.
