The Playground Theatre announces its 2011-2012 Season

altThe PlayGround Theatre has lined up an exciting eighth season for all ages announcing the return of three critically acclaimed productions from the theatre’s repertoire to highlight the 2011-2012 season. Opening with The Red Thread, the season will continue with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings.

“With the enthusiastic response we have received from our audiences, both young and old, we are extremely pleased to once again offer the productions that have become iconic presentations of The PlayGround Theatre,” said Artistic Director and Founder Stephanie Ansin. “This year’s lineup offers our community an opportunity to experience a wide range of innovative, interactive productions that entertain, educate, and delight audiences of all ages.”

The Red Thread returns November 9 through December 18, to entertain South Florida audiences. Inspired by ancient Chinese folktales and rewoven by Stephanie Ansin and Fernando Calzadilla, The Red Thread highlights a young woman’s heroic efforts to rescue her father’s miraculous masterpiece. Her ensuing adventures challenge her mind, body, and spirit and ultimately bring her true love, inner strength, and a glorious reunion. This riveting adventure is recommended for ages 8 and up.

Time, space, and cultures collide in Stephanie Ansin and Fernando Calzadilla’s adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this visually stunning version of Lewis Carroll’s classic English fairy tale, scheduled from February 1 through March 11, 2012, Alice tackles the challenges of an ever-changing dream world infused with a contemporary South Florida flavor. This lush, multi-sensory experience directed by Stephanie Ansin, choreographed by Octavio Campos, with original music and sound design by Luciano Stazzone, and set, lighting, and costume design by Fernando Calzadilla, is recommended for theentire family.

Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz’s adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez’s short story A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, from April 25 through May 25, 2012, will once again enthrall audiences. The magical tale set in an impoverished town close to the Caribbean Sea explores how poverty and greed can contaminate human behavior. A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings celebrates the importance and power of children’s faith and imagination. Discover the true identity of a mysterious creature that falls from the sky.
