The PlayGround Theatre. Inanna and the Huluppu Tree

From Nov 12th through Dec 20th, 2009.

Before Zeus and the Olympians, there was Inanna. Continuing her commitment to create new and adventurous theatrical fare for young children, Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin brings one of the worlds oldest stories to life. Journey back 4,000 years with Inanna and the Huluppu Tree and experience the interactive story of Inanna, the great mythical goddess with her own very unique set of problems.

In describing the four thousand year old Sumerian legend of the great goddess, Scientific American declares, “It is Inanna, the oldest story of all we know, who alone spans the whole of mythic life.” Written by Ansin and Fernando Calzadilla as Inanna and the Huluppu Tree for ages 8 and up, the story celebrates the victory of the young goddess who restores harmony to a city ravaged by ceaseless storms and displaced deities. Directed by Ansin, set, costume, and lighting design are by Calzadilla, original music and sound design by Luciano Stazzone, choreography by Octavio Campos, specialty props, masks, and puppets by Jim Hammond, with aerial choreography and training by Ileigh Reynolds.
