The Poetry Buffet presents an Evening with David Zalben

CrepeMaker Café. September 24, 2012. 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

The CrepeMaker Café is celebrating its fourth season of The Poetry Buffet, featuring Miami-based artist David Zalben.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, his family often moved from city to city, including Brazil. David began his artistic journey at the early age of nine, and photography became his passion. Self-taught, David worked in advertising photography, where he established himself by engineering new approaches and innovative techniques. After working as a photographer for many years he went through a period of creative transformation and started to paint, and later began shaping wire into figurative sculptures.

David began writing poetry in the early nineties, combining words with wire. The challenges of transforming poetry into wire sculpture influenced a change in his style of writing, and provided the catalyst exposing his poetry through a unique visual art form.

David is currently an artist-in-residence at the ArtCenter/South Florida on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. His poetic wirework is exhibited in galleries, international art venues and is widely collected nationally and internationally. David’s work is represented in Hong Kong and will be exhibited in October in Guatemala City, and next year in Zurich. To learn more about David, please visit his website www.davidzz.com.

Enjoy sharing crepes, wine and verse. Following David’s performance, CrepeMaker Café presents its round-robin open mic. Please bring one of your own poems or any other poetry and enjoy the thrill of participation. Cara Nusinov, of ReadPoemsWithMe© will then lead a poetry workshop with “poetry prompts” to inspire your creativity. Laptops are welcome – we have Free WIFI. The Café offers a comfy and nurturing environment for both first-time readers and pros with the opportunity to mingle with fellow poets and writers. Please RSVP at [email protected] and include your phone number.
