Viva Bourgeois! by Moliere

Mad Cat Theatre Company. From Jul 24th through Aug 22nd, 2009.

Moliere first presented Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme in 1670 before the court of Louis XIV at the chteau of Chambord by Molire’s troupe of actors. Now it’s Mad Cats turn. Mad Cat’s version will stay true to the story – well as close as possible – and satirize attempts at social climbing, poking fun both at the vulgar, pretentious middle-class and the vain, snobbish aristocracy; however, as can be seen in the title of this adaptation Viva Bourgeois there of course will be a Mad Cat twist.

In this version, adapted by Paul Tei, turn back the clocks to 1971 and take note that Monsieur Jourdain resembles Elvis Presley (played by Erik Fabregat). Welcome to Graceland where kung fu, prescription drugs and cheeseburgers are all the rage.

Performances of Viva Bourgeois! will take place Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. at the Light Box of Miami Light Project.
