Wolfsonian's Book Club: The History of Mr. Polly by H.G. Wells

Friday, June 6, 2014 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm

The History of Mr. Polly by H.G. Wells (1910). Known today chiefly as a writer of science fiction, H.G. Wells also wrote genre stories about life in Edwardian England. The History of Mr. Polly depicts an ordinary man in all his ordinariness: his unhappy marriage, unsuccessful business, and life of quiet desperation. Unusual, and unexpected, is Mr. Polly’s solution to the situation. A comic, ultimately optimistic novel with serious themes, it contains outstanding descriptions of daily English life in the early 20th century.
