Carbonell Awards

April 10th, 2006The 30th Annual Carbonell Awards Ceremony hosted by Florence Henderson will take place at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on April 10th, 2006. The Carbonell Awards statuettes are made and donated by renowned sculptor Manuel Carbonell who is the creator, namesake and Grand Benefactor of South Florida’s Carbonell Awards. The sculptor designed the original solid bronze-and-marble award in 1976. His gallery in Brickell, Beaux Arts, have casted and donated each statuette to this day. The piece is solid bronze on a marble base conceived to recognize special achievement in all artistic disciplines throughout South Florida, including the finest of approximately 150 annual regional and touring theater productions, their creators, performers and designers. Created in 1976 by South Florida’s arts critics and columnists, The Carbonell Awards are among the nation’s senior regional arts awards, along with New York’s Drama Desk and Chicago’s Joseph Jefferson Awards, and predates others including Washington, D.C.’s Helen Hayes and Philadelphia’s Barrymore Awards.
