at GableStage From Apr 21st through May 20th, 2007 Golda’s Balcony, the current play at GableStage Theatre, has being regarded as an inspiring piece of overwhelming power. It is based in the story of Golda Meir, a woman who went from impoverished Russian schoolgirl to Prime Minister of Israel. Embroiled in the Yom Kippur war of 1973, Golda was contemplating the most difficult decision of her career. The world premiere of Golda’s Balcony was produced at Shakespeare & Company, Lenox, MA, in May 2002. The New York premiere was produced off-Broadway at Manhattan Ensemble Theater, New York, NY, in March 2003 and moved to Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre in October 2003. Golda’s Balcony was nominated for the 2003 Drama League Award for “Best Play.” It holds the record as the longest running one-woman play in Broadway history.
