One Man, Two Guvnors live from the National Theatre of London

Coral Gables Art Cinema. May 19 and 20, 2012. 1:00 p.m.

Comedic mayhem is the name of the game One Man, Two Guvnors, which follows Francis (James Corden) after he is fired from his band and finds work as a bodyguard for small-time East End hood Roscoe. However, Roscoe is really Roscoe’s sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley. To complicate matters, Francis takes a second job with Stanley, who is in hiding and waiting to be re-united with Rachel.

The fun continues as Francis tries to keep his two guvnors apart. The New York Times notes, “It wasn’t until the joke about passing gas that I realized that Richard Bean’s riotous crowd-pleaser…is an awfully smart show.” and The Guardian raves “One of the funniest productions in the National Theatre’s history.” One Man, Two Guvnors runs two hours and forty minutes with a 15-minute intermission.

Directed by acclaimed film and stage director Nicholas Hytner, Richard Bean’s update of Carlo Goldoni’s The Servant of Two Masters is the winner of the Evening Standard Award and the Critics’ Circle Award, and has been recently mounted on Broadway becoming a hit in the U.S. with seven Tony Award nominations.
