Teatro Avante presents El no

From January 24 through 27, 2013.

“El no”, Gilda Santana’s freely adapted version of Virgilio Piñera’s play, directed by Mario Ernesto Sánchez, comes to the Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s On Stage Black Box this January.

El no is about a generation that tries to impose its way of thinking and doing, while a younger one claims the right to rebel in its quest for happiness. Should it hope in silence, flee, or stand up to power? What is the best way of saying no, and what is the price to be paid? The cast of El no includes Isabel Moreno (Laura/Woman), Gerardo Riverón (Pedro/Man), Maribel Barrios (Emilia) and Julio Rodríguez (Vicente).

Mike Porcel composed the original music, Pedro Balmaseda and Jorge Noa designed the set and costumes, and Mario Ernesto and Ernesto Padilla designed the lighting. Other credits go to Melissa Messulam (assistant director), Adriana Carbonell (production assistant), Beatriz J. Rizk (literary consultant), Ernesto Padilla (technical director and lighting operator), Pedro Balmaseda (sound operator), Marián Prío (supertitles), María Eugenia Rodríguez (supertitles operator), Gabriel Cutiño (video), and Asela Torres (photography).

“El no” will be performed in Spanish with English supertitles at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s On Stage Black Box.
