The Area Stage Company. A Pair of Nuts Live!

Sept 17th and 18th, 2010. 8:00 p.m.

altHot out of their appearance on Comedy Central’s Tosh.0 and starring in VH1’s Money Hungry, Miami’s homegrown comedy duo, “A Pair of Nuts,” are coming home for two shows. Yamil Piedra and Johnny Trabanco are bringing their live show to the Area Stage Company for the first time.

“We’re excited about partnering up with the Area Stage Company to produce our live stage show,” says Piedra. “It’s a beautiful theatre that’s been missing one thing… Nuts.” And nuts is exactly how it’s going to be when Yamil and Johnny take the stage. Their live stage show is an award-winning multimedia sketch comedy show that combines loosely improvised sketches, hilarious short videos, and numerous costume changes.

“We’ve performed at comedy clubs, colleges, festivals, bars, anywhere you can possibly think of across the US,” says Trabanco. “But there’s no place like performing in Miami. It’s home.” Piedra, who was born in Cuba and came to Miami by the Mariel Boat-lift in 1980 was raised in Miami, and Trabanco was born in Miami to Cuban parents. Even though the Nuts have the ability to transcend from their Hispanic heritage into a style of comedy that has a universal appeal, there’s a touch of their Miami roots in their material. “We’re very proud to have grown up in such an amazing city like Miami,” says Piedra. “Everywhere we perform we let everyone know we’re from Miami and I think we represent Miami’s growing comedy community as best as we can.”

The Nuts have had an amazing year highlighted by several successes. They starred and wrote for the hit Spanish sketch comedy show on MegaTV called “El Vacilon,” where they brought a new style of comedy never before seen in the Spanish market. They starred in the VH1 reality weight loss show Money Hungry where they brought non-stop laughs.
