Women’s International Film Festival

From Mar 28th through Apr 6th, 2008. Women’s International Film Festival. Miami EventsThe Third Annual Women’s International Film and Arts Festival will screen a diverse line up of films from countries reaching every continent with a special opening night concert by Cuban born international recording Artist Lucrecia. Screenings will be held throughout Miami, including the Gusman Center, AMC Cocowalk and The Arts & Minds Theaters in Coconut Grove. Closing ceremonies will be held at The Deauvillle Hotel and the Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club on Miami Beach.

This year’s festival offers film lovers an exciting ten days full of events that include world premieres, big budget films, world cinema, innovative independent films, international documentaries plus short films celebrating the richness and diversity of the lives of women around the world. In addition to the screenings there will be workshops, panel discussions, symposia, a family funfest and parties.

The festival spans a range of subjects and styles: from “The Good Mother of Abangoh,” a documentary featuring Sister Jane Mankaa, a nun who runs an orphanage in Nigeria, West Africa to “Daughters of Gardeners” a Canadian feature which portrays the disastrous global consequences of female infanticide in India.

“We’ve selected the very best films from over 300 entries which came from as far away as Australia, India, China, Europe and South Africa with more coming from Brazil, Canada, throughout the entire U.S., including right here in South Florida," said Yvonne McCormack-Lyons, WIFF founder and Executive Director. "All of the films capture aspects of women’s lives whether it be sexuality, politics, spirituality, culture, race, health, identity and beauty."
