African Heritage Cultural Arts Center presents Friction Fiction

Fri 17 Feb, 2017 - Sun 26 Mar, 2017

The Amadlozi Gallery located at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, in Liberty City; features an amazing new exhibition titled “ Friction Fiction,” brought to you by The Soap Factory (Minneapolis, MN). The exhibit features seven internationally recognized artists and an equally complimentary group of local artists. The animation documentaries and traditional format mixed media art works explore the relationships of personal spaces to peel back the many layers that constitute the family and community.

The gestures of hand-made animation works contextualize the relationships of the artists’ African ancestry to their immediate environment. The artists’ use of animation also mirrors their personal cultures to address alienation, and distance modified for the better. The traditional format artists blur the lines between fantasy and reality, leading the audience to a playful sense of the absurd and intimate, the ideal subject as human interaction.

Featured Artists:

Africanus Okokon, Caress Reeves, Kevin Wideman,

Nina Barnett, Ng’endo Mukii, Tim Portlock, Martine Chartrand,

Tavare Hill, Aurora Molina, Chris Friday, Rhea Leonard, Attlesha Harry

Curated by: Roderic Southall (MN) and Ernest Bryant III (MN)
