Bob Edelson, internationally renowned photo artist and long time resident of South Beach who helped popularize the deco nature of South Beach in the 1980s, has just had his fourth art/photography book published – Street Art Noir. A talk and book signing by Mr. Edelson will be at Books and Books Coral Gables on Sunday, September 21st, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.
The new book was designed to be a visual trip – sort of a symphonic slide show – to evoke the rhythm and range of emotions one would have watching a "noir” film. The images are dark, urban, sensual, and at times frightening, but presented in a tongue-in-cheek, entertaining way. The images are based on street art recently photographed by Mr. Edelson in US and West European cities, including New York City, Miami, Paris and Amsterdam. Though originally in full color, the images have been computer modified into high-contrast black and white graphics to increase their noir-ish impact. The result is a new perspective and an interesting use of street art.
