Firebird. October 4th, 10th and 11th, 2009. Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida wants to please its audiences by presenting once more Firebird. This dynamic dance company, conducted by Ballet Master Vladimir Issaev will open its season with the return of Firebird.
Rock ‘n’ Roll. From Sept 10th through Oct 4th, 2009. This extraordinary theatrical event, from four-time Tony Award winner Tom Stoppard (The Coast of Utopia), is making its Southeastern Premiere following a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London’s West End.
From Oct 2009 through Apr 2010. Miami City Ballet’s (MCB) 2009-2010 season of dance in South Florida begins in October 2009 and runs through April 2010. The Company performs at Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale; and at Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
September 2009. Miami City Ballet dancers are back from summer break and in the studios rehearsing for an exciting line-up of performances which begin in October. Among the many dances being rehearsed is Paul Taylor’s signature work Company B, being staged by former Paul Taylor Dance Company member Patrick Corbin.
From Aug 27th through Sept 27th, 2009. New Theatre kicks of its 2009-2010 season with Shakespeare’s comedy, The Taming of the Shrew adapted by Roberto Prestigiacomo. This classic battle-of-the-sexes romp is the tale of a shrewish woman and her strong-willed husband, both causing havoc on the conventions of courtship and marriage.
Speed-The-Plow. From Aug 15th through Sept 13th, 2009. GableStage at the Biltmore announced their final production of the 2008-2009 Season, David Mamet’s Speed-The-Plow, which opened on August 15th and will run through September 13th, 2009.
The Whipping Man. From Aug 12th through Sep 6th, 2009. The Caldwell Theatre Company has already unleashed Matthew Lopez’s powerful drama, The Whipping Man. Set against the backdrop of the last day of the Civil War, a badly wounded Jewish confederate soldier returns to his Richmond estate and begs his now freed slaves to nurse him.
A new performing arts and creative writing charter school opened its doors in Miami’s Design District in August of 2009. Though many schools are anticipating cuts to arts education in Miami-Dade, this school seeks to offer everything a student could need to test their creative abilities while enjoying a first-rate academic education.
