MAM Morning Lectures: Art in Miami

Miami Art Museum. From Oct 8th, 2009 through May 12th, 2010.

Art in Miami is the topic of Miami Art Museum’s annual MAM Morning Lectures, a seven-lecture subscription series in which local critics, historians and curators present a panorama of the arts in Miami from 1896 to the contemporary scene. Subscribers meet monthly over coffee and muffins beginning Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. A tour of current exhibitions led by MAM docents follows the lecture.

Tuesday, November 10th – “Architecture and Design: Pioneering towards Deco, MiMo and Beyond” given by Beth Dunlop, architecture critic

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 – “Free and On & Off the Street” given by César Trasobares, artist and art activist.

Wednesday, February 10th – “The Biological Analog: Museums Grow, Divide, and Disappear” given by Helen L. Kohen, art historian and critic.

Wednesday March 10th – “Recognizing the Miami Demographic: Before and Beyond Mariel” given by Margarita Cano, Artist and Joanne Hyppolite, chief curator, Historical Museum of Southern Florida.

Wednesday, April 14th “The Transition: Pre-Basel Miami” given by Peter Boswell, assistant director for programs/ senior curator, MAM.

Wednesday, May 12th – “Assessing Miami Art 2010” given by René Morales, associate curator, MAM
