Meet the Artist Madeliene Abling at Williams McCall Gallery

April 20, 2012. From 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The Williams McCall Gallery is holding a Meet the Artist Reception featuring Madeliene Abling on Friday, April 20th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Abling will unveil new works inspired by her time in South Florida.

Madeliene Abling paints what she loves. Using a large glass palate smothered with “mounds of paint,” she layers and textures canvasses with thick, seemingly random shapes that always, in the end, come together to form the painting that they are meant to become. These paintings – from adult beverages to jazz instruments to boats to “strong coffee” to her latest series of wine-inspired settings – are presented in an impressive array of shapes and sizes that burst, effortlessly and uniquely, with bright vivid colors and enthusiastically detailed imagery.

“I paint in a bold impressionistic style,” says Abling. “I love thick, juicy paint, loose shapes, the smell of the studio. I paint because it fills me with a sense of well-being, of belonging, of total be in the moment consciousness. I am never closer to myself than I am at those moments.”

Based in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Provincetown, MA, Abling has shown her work in galleries throughout the United States, including the Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro, MA, the James Beard Foundation Greenhouse Gallery in New York, NY, and the French Culinary Institute in New York City.

The Williams McCall Gallery is the newest addition to the trendy South of Fifth neighborhood of South Beach, and the first fine art gallery in the area.  The stylishly minimalist gallery exhibits emerging, mid-career and established artists creating contemporary paintings, works on paper, fine art photography, encaustic collage and assemblage.
