Miami Beach Sister Cities International Artist Showcase

Art Deco Welcome Center. May 16, 2011. 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

altAfter a somewhat dormant period and much demand, the Miami Beach Sister Cities International Program is bringing back its celebration of Miami Beach’s multicultural and pluralistic heritage. Newly renovated programs involve people of all interests and backgrounds fostering a comprehensive and all-encompassing relationship between the City of Miami Beach and its partners.

The City of Miami Beach is hosting an international art exhibition in celebration of the City’s 11 sister cities, which represent the following countries: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, and Spain.

Miami-based painter Anica Shpilberg, who is included in the show, expresses her Peruvian heritage thru her paintings, and brings awareness of the social realities and cultural clashes present in our diverse world today, realities that are at the core of our society and are not so different from ancient experiences.

Anica states, “the picture describes the facts and when transferred to stretch fabric, it becomes a biased in which to paint my memories with the help of different mediums like wood, papers or fabrics, collaging them into the paintings to create the textures and layers that represent the complexity of life.”
