Poet’s Room. Teorema by Horacio Sapere and Entre Calles by Silvia Martinez “Kuti”
On September 2nd, CCE Miami in collaboration with Frost Art Museum will present the project Poet’s Room. Teorema by artist Horacio Sapere at the museum’s location in FIU. Also in collaboration with Gobierno de las Islas Baleares and the Ramón Llull Institute, this project will feature an artistic piece of Sapere that offers a contemporary version of “the theorem,” a conceptual tool invented by Ramón Llul to generate knowledge and answers to mythological and theological questions, as well as film documentaries and a series of conferences on the subject entitled An Ageless Mind: Ramon Llull Legacy and Validity.
Reasoning, mystic, action and the universe, the main issues of Llull’s dogma, are the ideological tools used by Sapere to extract his very own subject. An integrated theorem created for four abstract concepts: Substance, Poetry, Utopia, Universe.
A chair represents the central axis of the installation: a chair of thought? Of spirit? Of silence? the embryo of Poet’s Room. Teorema, the sculpture made to fit mankind but forbidden to use it, invites to reflection, to the memory, to reunion. Each of the backs of the chairs contains a written principle of the theorem and redirects us to its corresponding visual poem made in video projection.
As stated by the project’s curator, Pilar Baos, “Sapere uses the duplicity of Llull’s thought to move it to his own art world to show us the contemporary in this author by conjugating with the art codes.” The conference program, An Ageless Mind: Ramon Llull Legacy and Validity, will take place on September 9th and 11th at the Frost Art Museum and will feature speakers such as Jordi Gaya and Antoni Bordoy on the first session and Pilar Baos, the project’s curator with William Jeffet on the second.
On September 10th CCE Miami opens the photo exhibition Entre Calles by Silvia Martinez “Kuti” as part of the “Espacio Abierto” initiative, this time at the center’s location in Coral Gables. Kuti’s work is eye catching in what it brings the viewer closer to unknown and familiar realities, always characters and surroundings of rural and urban Cuba, beyond the typical images of the country and digging into an inaccessible reality for the observer. She evolves from paper as a printing material, towards canvas and aluminum. Her work has caught the attention of multiple private collections and art foundations both in Cuba and abroad. At present, she lives in Miami.
