Super Morphine. From Sep 8th through Oct 9th, 2006Dot Fiftyone Gallery in Wynwood Art District inaugurates Super Morphine, a solo exhibition of the Mexican artist Carlos Jorge Macari. The exhibition will compile a variety of recent paintings, drawings and three-dimensional works by the artist. Carol Damian, Professor of Art and Art History at Florida International University commented on the exhibition: “The characters have names like Morphine and Vitamin. They are whimsical fantasies described in drawings, paintings and sculpture, like cartoons yearning to break free of the confines of their master’s bizarre sense of visual reality. Carlos Jorge Macari has created their world and each personality takes on a life of its own. They are the promptings of a vivid imagination that may have been encouraged by the very rich heritage of the artist’s homeland in Yucatán, México, with its endless mythologies and profound sense of symbolic narrative”.
