Get it Fresh! A Contemporary Art Exhibition

From Sept 17th through Oct 7th

altThe 6th Street Container of Little Havana brings another contemporary art exhibition of painters and sculptors. The exhibition is to take place in a “not yet rented space,” Zona Verde and the 6th Street Container, all housed in the historical 6th and 12th building, where Rumba on 6, 6g and Lab6 used to be. The organizer and artist who ten years ago ignited the cultural explosion of a once devastated area is now doing it again, away from the hustle and bustle of Calle Ocho; exhibiting the works of Julio Antonio, Luisa Basnuevo, Elisabeth Condon, Robert Huff, William Nute and Janet Paparelli, all well known local artists of national and international recognition.

“We did this years ago and we plan to do it again, but now with a totally different mindset. This corner needs to come alive,” said Adalberto Delgado, filmmaker/artist and organizer of the event. “We are doing it in collaboration with Bill Fuller and Martin Pinilla, owners of the property, which wraps around the corner of 12th Avenue and 6th Street.” Delgado has already brought in Yoshvani Medina, writer and theater director. Medina opened Art Spoken, a full-fledged experimental theater with activities almost every night of the week, including a Sunday’s poetry and literary brunch where authors exchange ideas and works. The building already includes, since 1999, the studio of Carlos Alves and a group of ceramic artists. An attorney turned painter has her studio there along with the recently opened Adelmo Gallery. In addition, the building houses a dance studio, under the direction of an ex-member of the Merce Cunningham dance troupe. And for those interested in food and music, a pizza place is planned to come soon and also a vegetarian/vegan bistro with Yoga and healthy cooking classes, live world music and even a stand up comedy night! Opening on September 17th (third Friday of the month) to meet the artists, from 7p.m. to 10 p.m. The exhibition will continue for the rest of the month, from Wednesday to Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and every other Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m., until Oct 15th, 2010.
