Sanford Biggers Solo Exhibition at David Castillo Gallery

From May through July 2014

Sanford Biggers’ works integrate film/video, installation, sculpture, drawing, original music and performance.  He intentionally complicates issues such as hip hop, Buddhism, politics, identity and art history in order to offer new perspectives and associations for established symbols.  Through a multi-disciplinary formal process, and an equally syncretic creative approach, he makes works or “vignettes” that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are conceptual.

Sanford Biggers was born in Los Angeles, CA and lives and works in New York, NY.  Recent solo exhibitions include Mass MoCA (North Adams, MA), the Brooklyn Museum, Sculpture Center (NY) and the Ringling Museum (Sarasota, FL). His work has been exhibited in institutions including Tate Britain and Tate Modern (London), the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Biggers has been included in several notable exhibitions including Prospect 1/ New Orleans Biennial, Illuminations at Tate Modern, Performa 07 (NY), The Whitney Biennial and Freestyle at the Studio Museum in Harlem.
