Oct 8th through Nov 7th, 2010. Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre opens the 2010 – 2011 season with The Color of Desire, a world premiere play by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz, author of Anna in the Tropics.

Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center of the Performing Arts opened the XXV International Hispanic Theater Festival (IHTF) this summer season, presented by Teatro Avante and American Airlines.

Although I cannot take credit away from the great contemporary playwrights and directors of our time, I think we could certainly agree that more often than not, a play’s success depends on the quality of its actors just as much as on the quality of its writing.

2010-2011. True to its mission of “Providing the South Florida community with classical, contemporary and new theatrical productions of artistic excellence”, GS is ready for yet another new season full of theatrical surprises. Here is a glimpse of the upcoming 2010-2011 season:

2010 – 2011. New Theatre’s 25th Anniversary season continues to fulfill our mission “to produce vibrant theatre that stimulates, provokes, challenges, and entertains by cultivating ‘New Voices- New Works and the Classics’” while bringing to life its theme for this season “overcoming adversity”.

From Aug 14th through Sept 12th, 2010. When their young son has his first sleepover, Adam and Jan are allowed the first night alone together in their Brooklyn brownstone in years. 

From Aug 5th through 29th, 2010. The Women’s Theatre Project presents the US Premiere of “Wicked Sisters” by Alma DeGroen. Directed by Genie Croft and starring Linda Bernhard, Elizabeth Dimon, Miki Edelman and Jude Parry.

October 4th, 2010. 8:00 p.m. Naked Stage founders Katherine Amadeo and John Manzelli invite the public to the inaugural event of the 2010 South Florida Theatre Festival.

From Jul 9th through Aug 2010. Playwright Ernesto Garcia returns to the Miami stage with his new play “Ode to Torture” which opens on July 9th, 2010 at Teatro en Miami Studio with actors Jorge Hernandez, Sandra Garcia, Leandro Peraza, and Alain Casalla.

From Jul 7th through Sept 5th, 2010. After the success that accompanied Caldwell Theatre’s 2009 Summer season, Artistic Director Clive Cholerton has chosen again to counter program against traditional summer fare, and will produce a World premiere in Joel Gross’s highly emotional romantic drama, The Comfort of Darkness, preceded by the Southeastern premiere of Bob Clyman’s successful comedic thriller, Secret Order.

From Jun 3rd through 27th, 2010. On the barren, diamond-diving coast of South Africa, Johan and Thami, an ex-cop and a gardener from starkly contrasting backgrounds,

Hollywood producers have done the subject of Iraq and the War on Terrorism to death over the past years.

From Apr 14th through May 23rd, 2010. Count Carlo Gozzi’s beloved comedy for children, The Love of Three Oranges returns to the stage to delight audiences of all ages at The PlayGround Theatre in Miami Shores.

From Apr 15th through May 9th, 2010. Dying City, Pulitzer Prize Finalist of 2008, is a powerful thriller and a gripping, psychological drama.

Through April 4th, 2010. Equus by Tony winning playwright Peter Shaffer comes to New Theatre after its successful 2008 Broadway run. It is the primal and electric story about a 17 year old stable boy and the psychiatrist who seeks to understand the sexual and religious mystery which led the boy to commit an unspeakable and unbelievable act.

Through Mar 19th, 2010. This Broadway smash-hit musical is directed by artistic director Danny Weathers, with musical direction by Michael Fauss, choreography by Penny Leto and features a cast of twenty and a four-piece band.

From Feb 17th through Mar 14th, 2010. One of The PlayGround Theatre’s successes, Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz’ adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez’ A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings returns to the stage to entertain young audiences from February 17th through March 14th, 2010. Composition Notebook. Feb 26th and 27th, 2010. 8:00 p.m. On Friday night, February 26th at 8:00 pm, Fly Away Balloon Theatre Company will debut their production Composition Notebook at The Islander Resort’s Conference Center in Islamorada, FL.

From Jan 22nd through Feb 14th, 2010. New Theatre presents South Florida playwright and historian Sandra Riley’s World Premiere of The Hour of the Tiger, where two women from different worlds struggle against tradition to find personal and artistic freedom.  This production marks Sandra Riley’s first play produced at New Theatre. 

A visit to the Playground Theatre takes me back to my school days in which a field trip to the theater was the highlight of my week.
