Biscayne National Park

Visitor Center Gallery. From May 16th through Aug 17th, 2008.The Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery at Biscayne National Park is hosting an exhibition titled Nature's Mirror: Reflections on Biscayne Bay showcasing oil paintings by Betsy Kreisberg inspired by the timeless beauty and endless variety of Biscayne National Park’s watery areas.

Kreisberg finds inspiration and a wealth of subject matter in the park’s 173,000 acres, since many of her favorite subjects are those of water and reflections. “Reflections are metaphors for the concept that art mirrors life, as well as actual embodiments of that relationship”, says Kreisberg. “Both the reflection and the subject are real, but the reflection cannot exist without the subject, just as art cannot exist without the life that inspires and creates it.”

Kreisberg grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania, where her mother was a scientific illustrator and an Impressionist of the New Hope school. A South Florida resident for 30 years, she has been painting and exhibiting both locally and nationally for 7 years, and became affiliated with the ArtSouth artists community in Homestead 3 years ago. Her work, primarily oil paintings, covers wide ranging subject matter, including portraits and abstracts in addition to her landscapes.

Nature’s Mirror is part of the park’s Community Artists program, and is made possible by the South Florida National Parks Trust through the generosity of Miami-Dade County’s Cultural Affairs Division, The First National Bank of South Florida and Sedano’s Supermarkets.
