July 17th, 2007. 7:00 p.m.The Art Deco Welcome Center, located in Miami Beach, presents a Lecture by Mona Mandall entitled En Plein Air Painting. En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting in the outside environment rather than indoors, such as in a studio. In the mid-1800s, working in natural light became particularly important to the Barbizon school and Impressionism. Mona Mandall, professor at the Miami International University of Art and Design, presents this program discussing the development and importance of en plein air painting throughout history, using examples drawn from artists worldwide.
