Peter Barrett’s wall installations and painted sculptures in “Ergo Gnomic” explore a territory between several different opposites, both high and low: sacred geometry and pop-culture psychedelia, organic and geometric patterns in nature, Tantric art and computer “art.” Barrett has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has had solo shows in New York, Miami, Chicago, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Toronto. His work has been discussed in articles published in the Boston Phoenix, The Kansas City Star, Art in America, Miami Herald, Zing Magazine, and NY Arts, among others.
Amanda Burnham’s show “Marginalia” will consist of works on paper and an installation, both modes presenting both her view of today’s urban landscape and her insight into how it is seen. Benjamin Lima writes that her work “allows us to explore directly […] symbolic aspects of these vernacular environments [that] remain hidden or implicit when we see only their surfaces, as in photographs.” This will be Burnham’s second solo show with Dorsch Gallery. She has an MFA from Yale University and a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard. She had a solo show at Loyola College in 2008 and has had work in group shows around the country. She is Assistant Professor at the Art Department at Towson University, Towson MD and lives in Baltimore, MD.
New York-based Michelle Hailey combines painting and collage, often juxtaposing disparate elements with a mysterious effect. The paintings for this show “Between the Valleys” are large-scale canvases, which balance vivid color, crisp composition, and a wry sense of humor. Hailey received her MFA from Hunter College in New York. She has participated in many shows in New York, London, Amherst, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, in such venues as Artists Space, NY, Jack Tilton Gallery, NY, Bowery Gallery, NY. She has a Bachelor in Painting from University of California Los Angeles. She has received several grants and awards for her work: the Graf Travel Grant, with which she did research in Iceland, the Artists Space Webspace Artist of the Month, and the UCLA Art Department Project Grant, among others.
