The #AtHomewithArt showcase and Artist Encounter opens Friday, September 2nd at the Miami Home Design and Remodeling Show located in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Stop by the feature area and meet 23 South Florida artists and representatives from three non-profit arts organizations: Little Haiti Mural Project, Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance (HCAA)/Iris Photo Collective, and Viernes Culturales/Little Havana Art District.

The “At Home with Art” Ambassador Artists are chosen through a submission process based not only on professional work, but also their efforts to stimulate the community’s interest in the local art scene. This commitment could be demonstrated through education, organizing outreach events, and participation in non-profit arts organizations.

“In celebration of fine art expressions, the Home Show offers a great opportunity to shine light on the work and artistry of South Florida artists by creating a synchronized effort in defining and exhibiting local home-grown talent,” comments At Home with Art participating artist and booth curator, Carl Juste. Juste is a Pulitzer Prize-winning, Miami Herald photojournalist and artist in residence at the HCAA.

Artists are asked to form small groups and “self-curate” a mini-exhibition of their work (paintings, sculpture, and photography.) The six artist teams can be found in one large exhibition area that can be found close to the Interior Designer Room Vignettes located in Aisle 4000.

This year’s participants are:

“Un Beso” by Marice Cohn Band

Lorie Ofir, Rosee Camafreita and Darren Johnson present: “Opposites Abstract” – through paintings, photography and sculpture, these artists take the ideas of abstraction in various directions.

Carl Juste curates “Synchronicity” with works by photojournalists: Jennifer Kay, Marice Cohn Band, Charles Trainor Jr., C.W. Griffin, Patrick Farrell, and Juste along with a new work by artist, Edouard Duval-Carrié, co-founder of the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance. Juste references Jung when stating that this group of artists “come together through an a causal connection to bridge past experience with a singular Miami visual expression.”

“The Paradox Between Heaven and Earth” by Lorie Ofir

Cuqui Beguiristain, member of the Bird Road Art District curates an exhibit of paintings and sculptures by artists: Jorge Ballará, MANO and Josepo.

Yuval Ofir, founder and curator of the Little Haiti Mural Project curates an exhibit of paintings and photography by artists: Alessandro Abate, Aquarela Sabol, Nate Dee, Rei Ramirez and Teepop. The mural project aims to reflect aspects of Haitian or Caribbean culture, while improving the quality of life for residents in an area where dilapidated or tagged up buildings can be found.

Mystical and Ectoplasmic” is a showcase of sculptures by artists, Ivan Castillo Lagrange and Bartus Bartolomes. Through their work, the artists examine the human condition and how life itself is an artform with the potential to re-invent ourselves through the world around us.

Pati Vargas of Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays curates an exhibit of paintings by Little Havana Art District artists: Annie M., Marta Ismail, and Rolando Elejalde. Since the launch of “At Home with Art” in 2015, the organization has participated and rotated works by different artists whose work provides a glimpse of this vibrant and popular tourist and community destination.
