Accent Alternative Art Space presents Volumes and Shapes

Emilio Héctor Rodriguez and Pedro Hernández
From May 19 through June 15, 2012.

In this collaboration, the ethereal, biomorphic compositions of painter Emilio Héctor Rodriguez, are set in counterpoint to the sensual tactile explorations of sculptor Pedro Hernández Dominguez; two creative sensibilities in search of the pleasure and mystery in the realm of the senses and the language of visual poetry.

“Rodriguez and Hernández … utilize sculpture and painting, respectively, as their medium to express their creative wills. The results are visually attractive works of art, that are interesting because of the care they place in the artistic forms, and because of their finishing touches to each unique piece…. Even though these two artists have explored different paths where it comes to the language they employ and the themes they tackle, this opportunity unites them in the same space where they can be viewed and compared based on their personal poetics”, says art curator Anelys Alvarez Muñoz.

Emilio Héctor Rodríguez was born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, and attended the Consejo Nacional de la Cultura. He left Cuba permanently in 1981, spent one year living in Paris and moved to Miami, Florida, in 1982. His work is in private and public collections throughout the United States, South America and Europe.

Pedro Hernández is a self-taught artist, born in Havana, Cuba. Among his many awards, he is the 1983 recipient of the Cintas Foundation Fellowship. Mr. Rodriguez has exhibited widely in Cuba, the United States and Europe. He joined the ranks of “Biomorphism”, in 1980 and has explored his art in bronze, rock, clay, wood and paper.
