Safety Box. A Project Room by Francis Acea

Sep 15th - Oct 1st, 2006

Safety Box is a project room created by Francis Acea, exhibited in association with PM Gallery owners Martin Parker and Gary Mercer. The exhibition examines critical representations of value in contemporary marketplace, establishing a parallel between the notions of value in art, and the psychology behind collecting it. Including video, installation and sound, Safety Box is an invitation to experience a bittersweet realm of private pleasure where intimate desires and wealth fantasies are safely preserved and kept away from the public eye. Francis Acea was born in Havana, Cuba in 1967. His work has been included in solo and group shows at venues such as Barbican Center and The Royal College of Art, London; Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Germany and ArtPace International Artist in Residency, San Antonio, TX. He currently lives and works in Miami, where he also publishes MAG, a bimonthly art magazine. PM Gallery is a space created and run by art collector Martin Parker and fine art photographer Gary Mercer. Being surrounded by artists for the last thirty years, Parker and Mercer engaged in a gallery project motivated by the desire of giving an outlet to their art collection, as well as showcasing new works and exhibitions by contemporary guest artists.
