Miami Light Project was awarded a $200,000 Knight Foundation Arts Partnership Grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as one of the 31 inaugural grant recipients of the$40 million effort to transform the South Florida arts.
To be paid out over a four year period, this grant will allow the organization to present more original, locally-produced performance art by expanding their Here & Now program, which presents bold, local and original performance. In addition, Miami Light Project will establish an annual residency and retreat program for the commissioned artists.

Hill, says about the grant. As part of the annual Filmmakers Workshop Series, Miami Light Project presents a free film screening of Southern Comfort, a film by Kate Davis.
Through workshops, film screenings, and panel discussions with industry leaders, Miami Light Project’s Filmmakers Workshop program provides hands on professional development opportunities for emerging South Florida filmmakers to hone their craft.
Miami Light Project and the Ford Foundation Future Aesthetics Cohort announce the awarding of over $50,000 to twenty independent artists across the United States and Puerto Rico. The Future Aesthetics Artist Regrant Program (FAAR), is a first of its kind initiative designed to give direct monetary support to emerging Future Aesthetics Artists – a new generation of artists working along the fringes, pushing the boundaries artistically, socially, and politically in literature, dance, music, theater and media arts. FAAR is funded by the Ford Foundation.
This summer, Miami Light Project will partner up with several top Hip Hop artists in Miami to present a four-week summer camp for teens. P.A.T.H. (Preserving, Archiving and Teaching Hip-Hop) is a program designed to increase awareness of the breadth and richness of Hip Hop culture and to bring together young people from 14 to 18 years old, of diverse backgrounds to participate in 5 content areas.
